“My Oma told my mother, you give up that child, you will never cross my threshold again.”
This is the the true story of Ursula Charlotte Kurz, in her own words.
“This is just my life, it’s nothing extraordinary,” she says. And yet her life, like the title, is both beautiful and bittersweet. Ursula was born to another father, and grew up separately from her sisters and mother until the age of six. As a teenager, she was part of the traumatising evacuation of German citizens from East Prussia during World War II. Living off stolen cabbages and relentlessly bombed, she was shocked to survive. Later she fell in love with Alfred, an adventurous merchant marine with stories of his own. Together they immigrated to Canada, where their expansive and wonderful family continues to live today.
This book was compiled, written and designed together with Ursula's children, grandchildren and great grandchildren over a five month period in Ottawa, Canada.
